The bite of a horsefly that feeds on blood can be particularly painful and annoying for both humans and animals. Their larvae hibernate in humid environments near streams, lakes, ponds or marshes.
April marks the massive appearance of the first adult horseflies, whose population constitutes a recurring problem for horses, livestock and people living around these areas. H-TRAP is also very effective in ensuring the peace of mind of domestic animals often victims of painful bites (horses, livestock, etc.). For example, reductions of 90 to 95% in the number of horseflies have been observed.
How to optimize your installation:
- To maximize the interception of horseflies before they reach their prey, identify their potential flight path from wetlands (ponds, river banks, etc.) to places of human or animal habitation.
- Determine if multiple H-TRAPs need to be installed.
- Install your H-TRAP(s) between these areas, but preferably near living quarters, such as stables.
- Install your H-TRAPs early enough, preferably just before the first adult horseflies appear in April.
- Check the traps once a week by emptying and refilling the tray with soapy water if necessary.
- If your H-TRAP does not trap enough horseflies even though you are sure that the first adults have started to emerge, reposition the trap.
