Effective heron deterrents (duplicate to be unpublished)

The heron fishes while standing on the bank: most protective measures aim to prevent it from entering the water or to deter it from approaching. Combining two methods generally provides a more lasting result than just one, as the bird eventually gets used to a stationary device.

• Physical barrier: CoverNet and Pond Cover Net netting, Heron Stop fishing line kit.
• Low electric fence: Velda Pond Protector, Gallagher wires, springs, and stakes.
• Deterrence: 6 or 9 m Scarybird scarecrow kites, Aquaforte Garden Sniper motion-activated sprinkler, Ubbink and Oase decoy herons.
• Visual effect: Velda, Superfish, and Boltze reflective floating balls.

Choose according to the pond's surface area, the height of the banks, and the space available around the water.
